One of the worst parts of working on your vehicle's battery, is the loss of information associated with the disconnecting of your battery. Radio settings, user information, keyless entry programs and the time are just some of the electronic information that can be erased once you removed the battery from the terminal. Luckily with the help of companies like SPX, Autel and Schumacher, we now have memory savers that can store this information prior to removing your battery.
The Schumacher INC7AOBD preserves all of your settings through a convenient OBDII cable that connects directly through your car or truck's port. Certain products like the Autel MD801, both scan engine codes while also acting as a memory saver which stores the vehicle data for review and analysis. These memory savers not only make working on your battery more convenient, but they also save you the time of having to restore all of your settings in your electronic control module.
Before actually working on or removing your battery, simply connect the memory saver's OBDII plug directly into the vehicle's OBDII port and you will be able to store the information. If you have the INC7AOBD by Schumacher, then the memory saver will have it's own internal battery which charges as the machine is plugged into a DC outlet. There will be LED indicators which show you the amount of battery life left in the saver to prevent a shut down in the middle of your work.
Replacing a battery is so simple to do yet losing all of your personal electronic preferences in your vehicle can be the most annoying side effect of removing the power source from under your hood. Be sure to look up our line of memory savers to prevent losing any important information from your ECM. As always, you can reference your factory service manuals, Chilton, Haynes, or eAutoRepair subscription for help finding the correct parts and repair procedures.
