With so many electrical components in today's vehicles, many shops are
purchasing diagnostic equipment to help troubleshoot their heavy duty trucks and
avoid paying the fees that many dealerships charge in order to use their
equipment. There are a variety of heavy duty scanners on the market. The Nexiq
ProLink Graphiq and Nexiq ProLink IQ are both popular choices. It is
important to know that the Graphiq tool only covers vehicles up to the 2006
model year and no future updates are planned. The Nexiq IQ is the better
option for newer trucks.
The Pro-Link Graphiq Heavy Duty Starter Kit is item number 616001 on our
website. It comes with the scan tool, Multi-Protocol Cartridge (MPC), 2006
Graphiq Heavy Duty Standard application, 6 & 9-pin cables and accessories.
The included Heavy Duty Standard application provides the functions necessary to
diagnose most SAE/TMC J1708/J1587 electronic control systems, engine,
transmission, brakes, instruments and emissions. For even more in-depth
diagnostics, cartridges and PCMCIA cards are available. At first, Nexiq
created a separate cartridge containing the specifics for each manufacturer.
Later, the Multi-Protocol Cartridge (MPC) was created. The MPC uses PCMCIA
cards. These cards are plugged into the MPC into the back of the unit, and
provide additional functions unique to each manufacturer. There is a
separate card or cartridge available for each manufacturer. These include:
Detroit Diesel, Mack Trucks, Volvo, Allison, Dana, Eaton, Meritor WABCO, Bendix,
Meritor Transmission, Navistar, Caterpillar, International, Mack and GM/Chevy.
The Pro-Link IQ is the new tool from Nexiq. It is item number 188001 on
our website. The Pro-Link Graphic iQ replaces the older Pro-Link Graphic (2006).
Nexiq is committed to updating the Pro-Link Graphic iQ on an ongoing basis. The
IQ comes with the Hand Held Portable Diagnostic Scan Tool, iQ Heavy Duty
Standard Application, 6 & 9-pin cables & accessories. The Heavy Duty Standard
application will allow you to read & clear standard codes. The IQ's OEM level
software will allow you to read Proprietary Trouble Codes, OEM Data Parameters,
do Advanced Functional Tests & Reprogramming. Software for many of the
different manufacturers is available including: Allison, Bendix, Caterpillar,
Detroit Diesel, Mercedes, International, Meritor & Wabco.
It is easy to read trouble codes from a heavy duty vehicle with the help of
the Nexiq Pro-Link Graphiq or Pro-Link IQ. With so many different tools and
brands being available, it is important to do your research and find the tool
that best suits your needs. Owning a heavy duty scanner can save the average shop thousands of dollars every year and is well worth the initial purchase price of the unit. Most of the manufacturers offer one year warranties and have great technical support hotlines. We also offer Nexiq's Heavy Duty Fault Code Guide 906008 which helps give you definitions and probable causes for the codes that your diagnostic scanner is picking up.
